WomenTime! II Canary Islands Women's Film Festival

WomenTime! IIFestival de cine Femenino de Canarias, is a film festival online (through FIlmin) and in person, which aims to visualize women as filmmakers. This project also aims to vindicate the current situation of gender inequality in our society by highlighting women as filmmakers. To participate in WomenTime! productions must be directed or scripted by a woman.

Participating projects must be short fiction, documentary or animation films with a duration of less than 15 minutes.

ELENA JORDI

In 1918, Elena Jordi (Barcelona, 1882) became Spain’s first film director for her work as producer, director and actress in the silent film “Thais”. Unfortunately, no copy of this film has been preserved.

Previously, during the 1908-1909 season she collaborated in Adrià Gual’s Teatro Íntimo and in the Gran Teatro Español. Between 1920 and 1914 she would act in the company of Enric Borràs and Josep Santpere participating in plays such as La educación del príncipe; among many others. Today she is the image of WomenTime! II Women’s Film Festival of the Canary Islands. This wonderful woman was the pioneer of cinema in our country.
